South Carolina Weather 3/9 Midday - Special Weather Statement

from The South Carolina Weather Podcast

Good afternoon. South Carolina. I'm Michael Mosby. That fog you're squinting through right now? It's not going anywhere until mid-morning. Dense patches rolled in overnight across the Upstate and Midlands, cutting visibility to a quarter mile in spots. If you're driving before 10 A.M., ease off the gas and flip those headlights on. Once the sun climbs higher, it burns off fast. Then we flip the script entirely. The Midlands hit 82 degrees this afternoon — that's 38 degrees warmer than usual for early March. The Upstate reaches 78, while the Lowcountry tops out at 73 thanks to a sea breeze keeping the coast honest. Mostly sunny skies statewide, with light westerly winds. Perfect weather for a lunchtime walk if you ask me. Tonight stays mild. Lows around 60 degrees across the board. That patchy fog redevelops after 4 A.M., especially in the Lowcountry and Midlands. Tuesday brings scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 5 A.M. and 11 A.M. The Midlands see the best chance, peaking around 8 A.M. Expect a tenth to a quarter inch where showers hit. Highs push even warmer — 84 in the Midlands, 81 in the Upstate, 78 along the coast. Here's what the rest of the week holds. Wednesday turns into the hottest day — the Midlands could hit 87 degrees, flirting with record territory. But that warmth doesn't stick around. A strong cold front arrives Thursday with widespread rain and thunderstorms. Expect a solid soaking, with totals between a quarter and one inch. Behind the front, temperatures crash. Friday's highs only reach the upper 60s, with overnight lows Thursday night dropping into the low 40s inland. The weekend rebounds nicely — sunny skies return Saturday and Sunday, with highs climbing back into the low to mid 70s. Enjoy the warmth while it lasts. See you this evening.
