Special Weather Statement | Rhode Island Weather 6 AM

from The Rhode Island Weather Podcast

Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Rhode Island Weather Podcast. It's Thursday, February 26th. Folks, winter left us a little gift overnight.. About half an inch of snow on the ground and 24 degrees in Providence. That's the kind of morning where your steering wheel feels like a block of ice. Down along Narragansett Bay, the ocean's doing its thing, keeping temps closer to 29 degrees. A five degree difference, but your fingers know it. Now the good part. We're climbing to 39 degrees this afternoon under partly sunny skies. Right on schedule for late February. Honestly? Not bad at all. Tonight is a different animal. Clear skies and calm winds mean the heat just radiates straight into space. Providence plunges to 11 degrees. The Bay holds near 18. That's the kind of cold where your nose hairs freeze on the first breath. Friday mirrors today. Sunshine, 39 degrees, pleasant enough. Overnight lows creep back to the mid to upper 20s. Nothing dramatic. Saturday steals the show. Mid 40s statewide with wall to wall sunshine. If you've been putting off a walk along the Cliff Walk or poking around Wickford, Saturday's your day. Then Sunday flips the script. A cold front barrels through early morning, maybe squeezing out a few snow showers. Highs stall in the mid 30s. And Sunday night into Monday morning.. Single digit lows. Arctic air moves in like it owns the place. Monday's highs barely scratch the mid 20s. By Tuesday, temperatures crawl back toward normal. We're watching a couple of systems that could stir things up early and midweek, but confidence on timing is low. Still sorting that out. One bright spot worth holding onto. We're gaining almost three minutes of daylight every single day now. The spring equinox is just three weeks out. Winter's still throwing punches, but it's getting tired. Charge your phone tonight. Cold like that drains batteries faster than a toddler drains your patience. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
