Speculation over redundancies at Abbott in Sligo

Speculation is growing that a significant number of redundancies are being offered by Abbott in Sligo. Around 70 staff across its plants in Sligo and Longford are said to be impacted. Abbott currently employs thousands of people right across the North West region.Ocean FM News has today contacted Abbott for comment who say that the company evaluates its competitive position and makes changes that reflect the strategic needs of its business.It's thought that the recent threats of tariffs by the US President and a reduced volume of Pharmaceutical products being manufactured in China may be contributing factors.Independent Cllr Marie Casserly says while the industry remains strong in Ireland, every effort must be made to protect it:
