Star Wars X Wing Starfighters of Aduma by Aaron Allston

The narrative centers on General Wedge Antilles as he undertakes a critical diplomatic mission to the world of Adumar, a planet whose culture is steeped in dangerous dueling rituals and an intense focus on pilot honor. Wedge must compete with Imperial forces led by Turr Phennir to secure Adumar's alliance, even while navigating betrayal from within his own diplomatic corps by the duplicitous Tomer Darpen. During his tenure, Wedge reconnects with undercover New Republic Intelligence agent Iella Wessiri, stabilizing his personal life despite the perilous political climate. After being declared an exile, Wedge successfully unifies the smaller nations of Adumar into a Union by training their pilots in New Republic tactics. This newly unified force, supported by a defecting Imperial admiral, launches a surprising and decisive counterattack that repels the Imperial fleet during a climactic final battle.
