Hopes new technology can help predict busy periods in emergency departments. Auckland University research has found artificial intelligence algorithms can predict surges in admissions for respiratory illnesses - weeks before they happen. Computer scientist Steffen Albrecht told Mike Hosking it finds recurring patterns in data. “It’s really a database using data that goes back to 2012.” Health New Zealand says there are processes in place to minimise risks - when considering using this type of technology.
