Submission Process & Beyond 5/26/2020: A Phil Svitek Vlog

Last week I spent a good chunk of time on the submission process. I submitted my feature film "Idyll" to various festivals in LA, San Diego, Paris, Prague, and Boston that had May 25th deadlines. I did this through FilmFreeway.com. I also spent time sending query letters for my novel. Each one taught me something. From a more creative standpoint, I talk about editing my friend Richard Vission's promo for his DJ set and a new strategy I'm employing in terms of writing my latest script (tentatively called "In Search of Sunrise"). Plus I go over how taking a step back (in this case with my trailer) can give you a fresh set of eyes to assess a project. And because people have DM'd me to talk about Joe Rogan's Spotify deal, I give some of my initial thoughts, which admittedly most are taken from GaryVee who predicted this would happen. But that does lead me into a topic of how we're all so impatient when most people's biggest contributions come AFTER the age of 50 years old. The way to combat this is to "learn from the dead". I explore what this term means to me and how recently, reading a historical fiction novel "Paris" by Edward Rutherford really gave me good perspective. Part of the age old wisdom we've heard time and time again is exercise is good for the mind. As such, I've been doing a lot of biking and it's been fun.
