It's thought that an ex-smuggling ship, due to be sank off the North West coast this week, will result in a major tourism boost for west Sligo. Killala Bay is about to host Ireland's very first artificial reef creating a marine life haven and tourist attraction on the Wild Atlantic Way. It involves the placing on the seabed of the MV Shingle in an innovative venture between local group Killala Bay Ships 2 Reef Ltd., the Revenue Commissioners and Sligo and Mayo County Councils. Cathaoirleach of the Tubbercurry/Ballymote Municipal District Cllr Joe Queenan believes that in time, this project will be a game changer for the area:
