A Mooloolaba surf rowing team experienced a dramatic wipeout during a competition at Burley on the Gold Coast when their boat was caught in a 'candlestick' – a complete vertical flip caused by a massive wave that drove the 200-kilogram vessel straight into the sand. The crew, including first-time racer Georgia, executed emergency procedures by trailing oars and moving to the back of the boat before jumping clear and diving deep to avoid the falling craft.
