Systems of oppression don’t want you to feel or heal - Ep. 2

from Recovery for the Revolution · host Carolyn Collado

Feeling and processing the impacts of systems of oppression is a powerful form of resistance.  In this episode, Carolyn Collado (they/them) explores how capitalism works to prevent us from feeling by keeping us busy and hustling. The extraction of resources through colonization and the pressure to produce have been ingrained in our lineages. Slavery and violence were used to enforce constant production. There’s 500 years of intergenerational, colonial trauma waiting to be felt and processed by us. Feeling and healing from intergenerational trauma is essential for resistance. The mental health industry often fails to address the systemic causes of anxiety and depression. Mutual aid, harm reduction, and community support are crucial for navigating the intensity of these times. Recognizing safety and finding supportive spaces is important in the healing journey.
