Talk 2: Marian Small

from OAME Talks · host David Petro, OAME President

In this episode, Marian Small will summarize some of the ideas from her OAME 2018 session titled Teaching with Intention: Focusing on What Matters. Teaching to the expectations is the job of every Ontario teachers. But it's not always obvious what "meat" to put on the expectation's "bones". We'll look at expectations in K - 8 and see how we can be more intentional with the math ideas that should come out teaching toward those expectations by choosing better learning goals and better consolidating the problems st/udents work on. Marian's work and ideas can be found on her site http://onetwoinfinity.ca and her more recent work includes MathUp (https://www.rubiconpublishing.com/collections/mathup/) and the soon to be published Math that Matters: Targeted Assessment and Feedback for Grades 3 - 8 (https://www.tcpress.com/marian-small ) More info and to find out how to register for Marian's workshop can be found at https://sites.google.com/oame.on.ca/oame-talks
