Teachers in Tactile Technology
from Raising the Dots
This month we meet two blind people making a huge difference in equipping blind and low vision people around the world with the skills and tools needed to access braille and tactile resources. Jackie Brown, from Northern Ireland, is the author of Braille On Display, a resource seeking to spread accurate comparisons of popular braille displays. She is also a digital skills trainer through RNIB and her own company Strive Ability. Jackie recently acquired her own Dot Pad X. In our conversation she shares how this tactile information display has impacted her professional and personal life. Marco Salsiccia, from California, was a senior animator and VFX artist. After Marco's sight changed suddenly in 2014, he became an accessibility specialist and teaches blind creators about the skills and tools needed for producing our own digital illustrations and tactile graphics. We learn about BlindSVG, the TADA Curriculum, an emerging tactile designer collective, and Marco's thoughts on dynamic tactile displays such as Dot Pad X.
