It's important, though, to recognize and appreciate that even though we breathe unconsciously, breathing shouldn't be taken for granted. We can go far longer without food or water to live than we can without oxygen. Breathing brings oxygen to the trillions of cells in our bodies and contributes to the proper function of those cells.
