The Atlantic Files #191: Philadelphia 76ers Year in Review

from The Atlantic Files · host Alex Fischbein, Dennis Clausen and Mike Bash

The Year in Review tanks are revving again as this week, on the Atlantic Files, we continue our annual series with the Philadelphia 76ers. Plus, we have news of signings and extensions as free agency continues in the midst of some great NBA Summer League. First things first, we discussed the latest signings and extensions that happened after our last episode. Dennis Schroder took a ton less money to sign with the Boston Celtics rather than taking the guaranteed 80+ million that the Los Angeles Lakers were prepared to give him. This could either go down as one of the worst decisions ever, or a 'bet on yourself' type of decision like Fred Van Vleet had. Only time will tell us which is which. Marcus Smart signed a four-year extension with the Celtics as well which was the type of move that was sort of expected. Just like the super max extension that Joel Embiid signed with the Philadelphia 76ers. The big man is set to make over $200M which has made a lot of people start to speculate whether a big Ben Simmons trade is happening or not. Speaking of Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid, and the 76ers, we took a look at their whole season in review and handed out some report cards for everyone. Simmons has often been blamed for the downfall of the whole team this past year. What else went wrong? Does the blame fall only on Simmons shoulders or should some others get thrown under the bus with him? Tune in to hear the answers to those questions and more! Timestamps: 0:00 - Intro 2:10 - New signings and extensions 2:35 - Patrick Beverly trade with the Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, and Minnesota Timberwolves 11:30 - Marcus Smart extension with Celtics 16:50 - Dennis Schroder headed to Boston 22:30 - Joel Embiid's super max with the 76ers 27:45 - Philadelphia 76ers year in review
