from Amateur's Guild | A D&D Podcast · host Cole Jarvis

The gang arrives at Sebog's home, the monastery of Tohu in the Lockwood Swamp before immediately learning his master Kyros has gone missing in the Forbidden Crypt. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/amateursguild/ Music by Stephen Kraus https://open.spotify.com/artist/6VGhX... Welcome to Angea. It has been 5 years since the Forever War. It is a time of peace, and reconstruction, but also guilt, loathing, and isolation. Man, elf, dwarf, and many other smaller kingdoms banned together against the onslaught of the Tiefling empire. And while the alliance ultimately proved to be victorious, it was not without grave losses. War raged on for a decade across all of Angea becoming almost a new way of life. Many believed it to be a war that would never end. But in fact, a succession of tactical victories by the Tiefling Empire had pushed the Alliance closer and closer to defeat. 5 years ago the Teiflings sent the whole of their forces to the last remaining northern stronghold of the Alliance. It was here the fate of the world would be decided. If the empire could push through, they would gain a pivotal access point to the southern world and would be utterly unstoppable. As battle dawned, the sheer number of Imperial forces was astonishing. Hope for the alliance was fleeting. Bjorn, king of men alone led forces of all races into battle despite perilous odds. The exact story of the battle is still widely debated. Some say the gods favored Bjorn, reaching down from the heavens to wipe out the empire in one blow. Others have heard Bjorn himself commanded the empire to stand down with one swing of his battle hammer. Many rumors have been told but one thing is certain, after only a few hours of fighting a million were dead, the Teiflings were in full retreat, and the Alliance had won the war. Dwarves saw the greatest losses of all, with the war nearly halving their entire population. Elves saw significant losses as well only after the tieflings. And miraculously man came out of the conflict almost unscathed, seeing no more than a couple tens of thousands of dead vs the other’s hundreds. This had lead to many mixed feelings about the war itself. Some see it as a grand victory showing the might of certain races over others, some feel it was no victory at all considering the costs, and others, mostly among the Tieflings, feel they were robbed of what rightfully theirs. Today, nationalism runs rampant in the political climate on Angea. Even the forces once allied during the war struggle to keep friendships alive and fruitful among deception and secrets kept from one another. Beyond the ruling families and politicians, the common people of Angea live in a renaissance. After years of warfare and struggle, peace has been prosperous and transformative. Advances in technology, medicine, and infrastructure make life easier for all. At the epicenter of this technological revolution is the city of Mikilrun, commonly referred to as simply Run (Rune). The capital of the kingdom of men, Run has transformed seemly overnight from the wartorn command center of the war into a bustling metropolis. And it is here where our heroes begin their journey.
