This past Monday, South Africans gathered in the historic surburb of Kliptown gathered to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Freedom Charter.. The Freedom Charter which was adopted by the African National Congress (ANC) during the struggle against apartheid and was a document which contained core values and principles which demanded equity and equality for all South Africans. However, during these celebrations many bemoaned that few of the clauses contained in the document have not been fulfilled, in the post-apartheid period experienced by South Africa. Looking at the African context, even after years of decolonisation and after the founding fathers established the Organisation for African Unity which was aimed at promoting unity amongst independent African states and to advance economic development on the continent, we aske the question has Africa realised the aspiration of its founding fathers: Kwame Nkrumah, Emperor Haille Sellaisse and Jomo Kenyatta.
