The Funeral Experience – the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

from Hope for the Widow · host Africa Podcast Network

The struggles of a widow begin immediately when her husband dies; she is immediately made to go through various traditional rites, disregarding her pain and process of grieving. Most people in Africa, argue that those rituals are intended to protect widows and not to harm them. This doesn’t appear to be the case as some of these practices and beliefs tend to dehumanise the very essence of their womanhood. In this episode, we will talk about these rites and possible solutions to the bad sides and even how to manage the ugly sides. The guest on this episode is Ms Grace Udodong. She is a professional youth care worker, currently the Executive Director of Oasis Youth Care Programs - a thriving Charity that addresses issues of homelessness for vulnerable and at-risk youth. She is a certified Life Coach and commissioned Biblical Counsellor and the leads Director at Havilah: a Hub to access Counselling, Coaching and Consulting. Grace is also a published author her book is entitled ‘’Valley of Beautiful Whispers, a memoir of my grief and healing’’. A mother to two absolutely wonderful teenagers, Grace loves the adventures og, learning new things, and helping people create and live wholesome lives.
