The Hanging Gardens of Babylon

from Hector Vladimir Studios

The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World Series. Episode 3. The Seven Wonders of the Ancient Word series. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon. A rich description of the 2nd oldest of the seven wonders of the world: the hanging gardens of Babylon. Here, I discuss the mystery and possible confusions of the origin and location of the now disappeared gardens. The technologies employed here are also disputed and controversial, with water screws being reported to be used to raise water above grade, though this technology was not reported as existing until over a century later. The hanging gardens are disputed to have existed, but as described they bring a marvelous account of engineering and beauty on a grand scale. Narrated by Hector Vladimir in 2017, audio remastered in 2024. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon were one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World listed by Hellenic culture. They were described as a remarkable feat of engineering with an ascending series of tiered gardens containing a wide variety of trees, shrubs, and vines, resembling a large green mountain constructed of mud bricks. It was said to have been built in the ancient city of Babylon, near present-day Hillah, Babil province, in Iraq.
