Queen Chief Elwin Warhorse Gillum is the Queen of Tchefuncta .Chahta.The story of John Horse and the Black Seminoles has been largely untold, but they deserve to be remembered for a number of reasons: - They created the largest haven in the U.S. South for runaway slaves. - They led the largest slave revolt in U.S. history. - They secured the only emancipation of rebellious slaves prior to the U.S. Civil War. - The formed the largest mass exodus of slaves across the United States and, ultimately, to Mexico.They are mostly blood descendants of the Seminole people, free Blacks, and escaped slaves (called maroons) who allied with Seminole groups in Spanish Florida. Many have Seminole lineage, but due to the stigma of having dark skin, they all have been categorized as slaves or freedmen,Historically, the Black Seminoles lived mostly in distinct bands near the Native American Seminole. Some were held as slaves, particularly of Seminole leaders, but the Black Seminole had more freedom than did slaves held by whites in the South and by other Native American tribes, including the right to bear arms.Seminole Tribe of Oklahoma. In 1990, the tribe received the majority of a $56 million judgement trust by the United States, for seizure of lands in Florida in 1823, and the Freedmen have worked to gain a share of it.prove descent from a Seminole on the Dawes Rolls of the early 20th century, which excluded about 1,200 Freedmen who were previously included as members.
