The Iran war: How did we get here and what happens next?

[Recorded March 5, 2026] It's been nearly a week since the United States and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran, bringing tensions in the Middle East to a boiling point and sparking a regionwide conflict that continues to escalate. As of Thursday, the war is entering its sixth day. Iran has launched its latest wave of retaliatory strikes, aimed at Israel as well as U.S. military sites in countries around the the region. The U.S. and Israel continue to strike Iran, too, with Israel also targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon, a militant group backed by Tehran.
