The Last Deception

from FRCP Sunday Morning Sermons

In Matthew 27:62-28:10, Jesus has died and Joseph of Arimathea buries him in his own, new tomb. But the Pharisees and Chief Priests aren’t done. They know Jesus proclaimed he would rise again in three days and they are going to squash the possibility that he worked out some scheme with his disciples in advance to make it seem like he resurrected. Pilate gives them a Roman Guard and tells them to make the tomb as secure as possible. Come to find out, a Roman Guard is no match for one of the Lord’s angels and Jesus' dead body gets lost anyway. In this message we look at the idea of deception and ask if Jesus was a deceiver, like the Pharisees claimed. Or does the evidence prove his claim? If so, then the real deceivers are those who deny that Jesus rose from the grave.
