The Living Word #114: Luke 20:24,25

from TGN: The Living Word

People in Jesus' time hated paying taxes as much as we sometimes do, even more so since they were paying them to the corrupt Roman government. So, was it right to pay taxes in such a situation? Some religious leaders tried to back Jesus into a corner with that very question. In today's verses, Luke 20:24,25 from the NLT, we find his response: "Show me a Roman coin. Whose picture and title are stamped on it?" "Caesar's," they replied. "Well then," he said, "give to Caesar what belongs to him. But everything that belongs to God must be given to God." We should bear these verses in mind when we have a hard time of letting go of those things that belong to others, or of those things that belong to God. God bless you!
