The Sanctuary of the Imperfect Life

We have been waiting to begin. Not in the obvious sense of the person who has not yet started the thing they intended to start, though many of us are also that person, but in the subtler and more pervasive sense of the person who has technically begun but who is holding some portion of themselves in reserve, waiting for conditions to improve before the full investment is made, waiting for the life to become what it was supposed to be before the life is genuinely inhabited. Waiting for the relationship to be repaired before the love in it is expressed with complete fullness. Waiting for the body to be different before the body is treated with the care and the gentleness that the body currently needs. Waiting for the finances to stabilize before the generosity that is in the heart is allowed to flow through the hand. Waiting for the faith to feel settled before the practices of the settled faith are undertaken with genuine commitment. Waiting for the circumstances to align before the life that the circumstances were supposed to enable is actually lived.
