As he goes through the motions of life, Working, eating, going home to a distant wife, he soon finds boredom in the act of it all, and is given the opportunity to invest in the a new invention called “Dry Cleaning.” To get the money for this investment Ed Crane blackmails the man who is sleeping with his wife, and from that moment, the world of Ed Crane slowly falls apart.
