It was the summer of 2003, just past midnight on a two-lane blacktop outside Marfa, Texas. Luna's car had died near Twelvemile Creek, and the only light for miles came from a roadside antique shop called The Last Stop. Inside, a woman named Elara sold objects she claimed had been 'returned' — items that came back after being thrown away or lost.
