The Nursery Window at 37 Birch Lane

A wrong turn on a rainy October night leads Luna to a house that shouldn't exist—a yellow colonial on a road she's never seen, with a nursery window glowing on the second floor. Inside, the furniture is hers but wrong: her grandmother's rocking horse painted black, her childhood bed stripped of sheets, a closet door that opens onto a hallway that shouldn't be there. In that hallway, a woman in a housecoat stands holding a photograph of Luna as a child—but the child in the photo is wearing a dress Luna never owned. The woman speaks in her mother's voice, but the words are for someone else. Luna learns that the house was built over an old root cellar where a woman named Eliza lost her daughter in 1957.
