The Path of the Artist: Balance Life with Art

from A Phil Svitek Podcast - A Series From Your 360 Creative Coach · host Phil Svitek

Creative people tend to have so many dreams, it can become easy to feel overwhelmed by all of them, which unfortunately leads to not accomplishing them. Productivity and freedom comes from you committing to your art and then you choose whatever else fits that benefits you in some way. It’s a simple enough answer but many of us fear committing to certain choices because it inevitably means you’re eliminating other possibilities. I find that the fear of commitment is an American epidemic. If we’re doing one thing, it then means we’re not getting to do another. But that’s just a fact of life. You can choose to see it as bad or you can just accept it because I believe true freedom comes from commitment. More than likely the people you look up to are fantastic at committing to projects and getting them done. They are probably so good at it that the sheer amount of projects they’re able to turn out seems intimidating. This, I believe, is the reason why I know too many people with hundreds of projects at various stages of progress and none of them complete. Does that sound like someone you want to be? I don’t, which is why in this lesson I (Phil Svitek) provide you with principles that successful people have used in order to accomplish many projects in their lives. I reference investor Warren Buffett, Greg McKeown’s essentialism principle, Parkinson’s Law and the importance of routines to combine them into real world steps you can take to achieve your creative endeavors. And it all starts with a mental shift. Are you ready to see your dreams cross the finish line? Then check out this episode. As always, thank you for doing so and write your opinion, any suggestions or questions you may have afterwards.  Full Transcript: https://philsvitek.com/the-path-of-the-artist-balance-life-with-art/ Warren Buffett Article: https://www.businessinsider.com/warren-buffetts-not-to-do-list-2016-10 Greg McKeown Book: https://gregmckeown.com/book/  Importance of Routines and Systems Episode: https://philsvitek.com/importance-of-routines-systems/ Apple Podcast: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/a-phil-svitek-podcast/id1211417581?mt=2  AfterBuzz Contact Page: http://www.afterbuzztv.com/contact-faq/#toggle-id-18  Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLd-Q6qZNFcQ9MJLXMMpSCJcjPAq-5lepX  SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/phil-svitek  Facebook: http://facebook.com/philippsvitek Google Podcast: https://www.google.com/podcasts?feed=aHR0cHM6Ly9hbmNob3IuZm0vcy82ZGIwYWEwL3BvZGNhc3QvcnNz Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0Ac7WjgaGaIAmc4nEZJFIY  Stitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/anchor-podcasts/a-phil-svitek-podcast Anchor: https://anchor.fm/phil-svitek  Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/philsvitek
