The Photograph at Crescent Falls

Luna recounts a story from three winters ago, when a photograph appeared in her mailbox at the cottage on the edge of Crescent Falls, Ohio. The image shows a narrow staircase descending into dark water, with a single hand reaching up from below. Over the next week, she finds the same photograph tucked into her coat pocket, slipped under her door, and pressed between the pages of a library book she never checked out. Each copy is identical—except the hand is a little closer to the surface. Desperate for answers, she tracks down the photographer, an old man named Elias Croft who lives at the end of a dead-end gravel road. He tells her the staircase is real, beneath the drained reservoir upstream of the falls, and that the hand belongs to someone who has been waiting a long time. He gives her a warning: never keep the photograph past sundown. She doesn't listen.
