Among literature that explores extraterrestrial encounters and paranormal experiences, this book shares stories from witnesses from all walks of life which include the little-explored area of the Philippines. In particular, the first half of the book delves into uncanny and terrifying experiences previously uncovered in other books about Asian countries, focusing on one family’s struggles with a haunted home and the tragedies that followed. Although an Asian country as it is centered in the Pacific, the Philippines was a Spanish colony for over 400 years and then was a Japanese-occupied territory. Due to this prolonged European influence, it is unique among Pacific destinations as a Eurasian culture. It is usually portrayed as an idyllic destination for both adventurers, hikers and beach-goers who are after an exotic tropical sojourn, however the Philippines had a violent past due to its involvement in World War II, and its oft-visited skies exude evidence of extra-terrestrial visitations. This book documents in stories the aftermath of violence on the victims who passed tragically and the malevolent spirits that visit on regions where violence had repeatedly occurred. It also documents the possibility of the existence of nature spirits and the notion that there are realities that surpass the imagination whose origins remain unexplored. It includes stories from other countries and their encounter with the unknown. A story or two lends credence to the possibility that our thoughts and intentions have the power to manifest in physical form. Whether beings and/or entities come from our own minds, within the planet, are from an alternate dimension or from within or outside the galaxy is a question for the reader to determineSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. One of My Sons by Anna Katharine Green Loyal Books A young girl frantically summons a gentleman walking by on the street to come in and help her grandfather. Arthur Outhwaite answers her cry for help only to find himself as the last person to see her grandfather alive and left with the admonishment from the dying man to deliver a letter to someone, and to that person only. Unfortunately, he dies before he can inform Outhwaite who that particular person is. Being in a house of strangers, Outhwaite is thrust into the mystery of not only finding this unknown person, but is also faced with the mysterious circumstances under which the child's grandfather died. The House of a Thousand Candles Meredith Nicholson A top ten bestseller of 1906, The House of a Thousand Candles is part adventure/mystery and part romance. The book begins with young Jack Glenarm returning from various exploits in Europe and Africa for the reading of his grandfather’s will. In it, he stands to inherit his grandfather’s estate, but only if he can remain for one year in residence at the old man’s unfinished “House of a Thousand Candles” in Annandale, Indiana, with only his grandfather’s mysterious valet for company. If he violates the terms of the will, the house will go to a young woman, heretofore unknown to him, whom the will also forbids Jack to marry if he wants to retain his inheritance. This all sounds very mundane to Jack and he fully expects to be quite bored in very short order. Soon after Jack’s arrival at Glenarm House, however, various strange occurrences ensue, and he soon finds himself absorbed in the most lively adventure of his life! (summary by J. M. Smallheer) The Affair at the Semiramis Hotel A. E. W. Mason Inspector Hanaud is a member of the French Sûreté. He is said to have been the model for Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot, as well as the opposite of Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes. The Affair At The Semiramis Hotel (1917), a novella, is the second Hanaud mystery. Did the robbery/murder really happen or was it the mescal-induced hallucination of the witness? The first novel is At The Villa Rose (1910). The third is The House Of The Arrow (1924) (there are seven through 1949, available at project gutenberg Australia). In 1910, Mason undertook to create a fictional detective as different as possible from Sherlock Holmes, who had recently been resuscitated after his supposed death by Arthur Conan Doyle in 1903. Inspector Gabriel Hanaud was stout, not gaunt like Holmes; a professional policeman, not a gentleman amateur; from the French Sûreté, not Victorian England; and relying on psychological insights rather than physical evidence. His "Watson" is a retired London banker named Mr. Julius The Boarded Up House Augusta Huiell Seaman What is the secret of the old boarded up house?
