But despite such assurances there may still be some concerns for the big Cup. Chelsea’s off-field issues just keep getting more bizarre, as reports of a possible poisoning of Roman Abramovich during peace negotiations dominate the headlines. But their focus on the pitch has kept the results, if not the performances, where they need to be. Do they have a potential banana peel before resuming their Champions League bid? Manchester United remains a swirl of confusion and question marks. Several maligned players were in action during the “break”, and the pursuit of a new manager seems to be narrowing in focus.
