Empathy has its limits.  We are gaining in our awareness that there are few things that can help us live more fruitful lives than empathy, something of which we are in very short supply, especially when it comes to politics. At the same time, many have simply assumed that for someone to be truly empathic with me means that they will give me exactly what I want, how I want it, when I want it. But real empathy actually requires that the one who is providing it actually feels MORE than what I feel, not only what I feel.
