"I kept saying daddy, daddy I want some drums, so eventually he bought me some drums. I was a little girl maybe 4 or 5 years old. It was something innate that he wanted to cultivate. When there's eight kids in the house and 10 people total you don't want to hear any drums or banging. It was an innate energy that we had. We were rhythm. I was just doing a session and I was trying to get the choir to do a combination of rhythms. They weren't nailing it so I said; "look, y'all follow me because I am rhythm."
