    A whisky története az 1400-as években kezdődött és akkoriban az „élet vizének” nevezték. Még nem érlelték, csak ízesítgették, édesítették az ihatóság kedvéért. A mai értelemben vett whiskyről csak a XVII.-XVIII. századtól beszélhetünk. Biztosat nem tudhatunk arról, hogy hol született meg hamarabb, mindenesetre a skótok és az írek versengenek az elsőbbségért. A whisky kezdeti terjedésének a XIX. század második felében az először Franciaországra rátörő filoxéravész adott hatalmas lökést. A filoxéra kipusztította a szőlők legnagyobb részét, előbb a franciáknál, majd Európa többi részén is, emiatt a bor és annak különböző párlatai szinte eltűntek a piacokról. E megüresedett helyekre „nyomult be” a whisky. A whisky elterjedésének másik, sokkal általánosabb oka az angolszász eredetben keresendő. E kultúra jórészt a gyarmatosítás útján eljutott a világ szinte minden tájára. Az USA-ba emigráló írek és skótok magukkal vitték a whiskykészítés és fogyasztás szokását. Az új, amerikai whiskyk megjelenése pedig tovább bővítette a választékot. Adásunkban ezt az egyszerű, mégis sok szempontból különleges és rendkívül népszerű italt Petzold Attila párlatszakértővel igyekszünk körül járni és bemutatni fajtáikat, lényegüket.
