In one of Egypt’s most shocking crimes, a fifteen-year-old girl named Menna orchestrated the murder of her father, Ashraf. After her mother’s death, Ashraf had devoted himself to raising Menna, but she grew increasingly entitled and possessive. When she learned that her inheritance of an apartment and a bank account would only pass to her after her father’s death, she conspired with her twenty-year-old fiancé, Mohammed, to kill him. The pair planned the murder carefully, carried it out, and disposed of the body. Menna displayed an unnerving calm afterward, but a piece of cloth (a milaya) used to wrap the body was traced back to their home. This clue led to their arrest.
