The Watchers Watch Chasing Amy

from The Watchers

Two queer women from Jersey, hosting a podcast where we watch movies and tv that are often–though not always–about New Jersey. It’s a bit surprising it’s taken us this long, but this week, Jodie and Andrea watched Chasing Amy, the third installment of Kevin Smith’s so-called Jersey Trilogy. We spend a lot of time working through some of the elements that didn’t age well (and were, frankly, already problematic in 1997), unpack the issues of bisexual representation (or lack thereof) in the 1990s in general, and in Chasing Amy in particular, and discuss why, despite all of that, we still find value in and have love for this movie.Next week, we’re going for something a little more family-friendly with our jointly beloved Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas. Here’s where you can watch it.And here’s a link to watch the INCREDIBLE bloopers, but wait until you’ve finished watching the movie before you do so.Referenced in this episode:Revisiting Bisexuality in Chasing AmyMy Rage at “Chasing Amy” Helped Me Find My BisexualityChasing Chasing Amy and The Rom-Com That Saved My LifeIf you're reading this, that means you've probably got your podcatcher of choice open right now.
