Tommy Zeigler, the store's owner, was convicted of the crime and sentenced to death. 46 years later, he is still on death row. His conviction is controversial, with recanting witnesses, conflicts of interest, and contradictory testimony. In May of 2021, Zeigler was finally awarded the right to conduct DNA testing of some of the physical evidence from the scene.
