Theremin virtuoso and designer Armen Ra was born in Iran and spent his teenage years in NYC where he was a part of the infamous club kid scene and nightlife “it boy” Known for his beauty, wit and classic Hollywood style. He worked as a model/Drag artist and was featured in Vogue, Amika, Glamour, New York times, Village Voice and countless other publications. He was hired by Madonna for her Sex book release party and again in 1999 to appear at the MTV VMA’s with the pop icon. Armen performed at clubs such as The Pyramid, the Boy Bar, Salon, Tunnel, The World, and regularly at the Wigstock festival. As a jewelry designer he designed and constructed pieces for such luminaries as Siouxsie Sioux, Patty Labelle Dolly Parton Patricia Filed and Todd Oldham. Concluding the era with a cameo appearance in the film Party Monster. Ra began studying the theremin 2001, debuting with the orchestral group Antony & the Johnsons in New York City. He soon began performing all over the US and Europe at private events and venues such as MOMA NYC, Lincoln Center, Walt Disney Concert Hall LA, Villa Petriolo Florence, Musé Rodin Paris for The Dior Haute Couture ball, the Broad Museum, United Nations, Wiener Konzerthaus Mozartsaal Vienna, CBGBs, Knitting Factory, La MaMa E.T.C., Joe's Pub, Boulder Museum of Modern Art, Lincoln Center, The Gershwin Hotel, Dietch Projects, and toured with Nick Cave. An award winning documentary film Titled “When my Sorrow Died, The Legend of Armen Ra and the Theremin” chronicles his life and career. Armen plays on the debut album of Sharon Needles, Aurelio Voltaire’s album “Raised by Bats” Selena Gomez’s Revival on the track “Me and My Girls,” Gwen Stefani’s album “This is what the truth feels like” on the track “Naughty” on BØRNS’ Blue Madonna album on the track “Supernatural” Mark Almonds album Variete, Derek Sherinian’s Album “The Pheonix” (2020) and the “Vortex” (2022) Hailed as one of the best Thereminists in the world, and the highest paid theremin artist in history.  His discography includes the Albums: Armen Ra plays the Theremin, Theremin Classiqué “Theremin Amerique the American songbook,” “Theremin Christmas,” “Theremin Discmorphia,” “Sacred Meditation,” and the single Cold Song by Henry Purcell.
