They Did Not Understand—Because They Did Not Believe: When Clarity Offends the Heart

from Last Christian Ministries

Jesus did not speak in riddles when He told His disciples about His death and resurrection — Scripture says He spoke plainly. And yet they did not understand, not because His words were unclear, but because they could not believe He truly meant what He said.In this episode, we trace a consistent pattern in the Gospels: whenever Christ speaks with clarity, unbelief disguises itself as confusion. From the disciples’ resistance to a crucified Messiah to modern claims that the Bible is “unclear” about the sacraments, chastity, judgment, care for the poor, and the treatment of outsiders, the issue remains the same. The problem is not ambiguity in Scripture, but hearts unwilling to accept what Jesus plainly teaches. This is a theological and pastoral examination of how disbelief manufactures uncertainty — and why faith begins not with reinterpretation, but with trusting that Christ means exactly what He says. ✝️
