Toot Your Own Horn: Music Matters with Ricky Latham (Episode 21)

from Toot Your Own Horn: Music Matters · host Lisa's Clarinet Shop

In this episode of 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐎𝐰𝐧 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐧: 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘤 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴, if you want to understand what makes someone want to become a musician and fall in love with wanting to excel as a teacher, this episode is for you. Ricky Latham started clarinet on his sister’s scrappy Armstrong closet clarinet. What kept him playing it was having one amazing band director after another through middle school and into high school. It was his Ohio All State experience in high school that helped him decide to pursue music as a career path thanks to his private lesson teacher who tirelessly supported him in learning how to practice and improve so he could rise as a player among his peers. And that lead to both an undergraduate degree, masters and now, Ricky, is working on his doctorate. It’s pretty clear that no matter what, Ricky has the will and the skill to make a career path in music work for him, regardless of if he gets a college teaching job or wins a job playing in an orchestra any time soon. Ricky’s love of teaching, love of learning from his students and desire to help others discover the joy of playing a wind instrument shines brightly through. #lisasclarinetshop #betteryourbest #GetSeriO #tootyourownhorn #clarinet #flute #saxophone #windplaying #windrepairtrainingacademy #iaeou #musicjobs #musicindustry #CO100SmallBusinessHonorees #BestSmallBusinessesinAmericaTop100 #Entrepreneurship #SmallBusiness
