Ernie's musical path began in childhood with a deep fascination for movie soundtracks, especially those from Pinocchio and Bambi, which taught him how to understand and express emotions through music. Despite a hiatus from music, Ernie always kept his clarinet with him, even during his six years in the army in Germany. He discovered a deep appreciation for Klezmer music, drawn to its flexibility and wide emotional range. A meeting with Anat Cohen in Puerto Rico in 2018 further deepened his love for the bass clarinet, and a call from Lisa Canning in 2019 led him to acquire a beautiful low C Prestige Buffet bass clarinet. Now retired, Ernie is the bass clarinetist for the Anderson Community Band and the Sycamore Community Band. Ernie emphasizes the importance of proper instrument setup and the social benefits of music, which connects people and promotes overall well-being.
