Toot Your Own Horn with Lauren Sevian (Episode 31)

from Toot Your Own Horn: Music Matters · host Lisa's Clarinet Shop

Welcome to the 31st episode of Toot Your Own Horn: 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘤 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴. Today, I have the pleasure of chatting with the incredibly talented Baritone Saxophonist, Lauren Sevian. Lauren grew up in a musically vibrant family, with her brother introducing her to the alto saxophone and her mother guiding her on the piano. It was clear from an early age that music would be a central part of her life. While she too initially played the alto sax through high school, liker her brother, it was her private teacher's introduction to the baritone sax that shifted her aspirations from wanting to be a band director to pursuing a career in music performance. In this episode we chat about how Lauren developed her freelance career as one of the top freelance baritone saxophonist 'specialists' in New York City, before eventually taking up a teaching position at the Berklee College of Music. We will also dive into how COVID transformed the music scene in New York, and we talk about AI and the future of music. Lauren's honesty and insights shine through in this conversation, and it was a thrill to connect with her. I hope you enjoy listening to this interview as much as we enjoyed having it!
