Rabbeinu Bachaya opened this chapter by alluding to five foundational principles that must be internalized if one is to succeed at developing Trust and Building Bitachon. In this episode we are introduced to the second Faith Fundamental: Sincerity! Simply stated, Trust in G-d can only be effective and meaningful when it is a heartfelt and sincere expression of our convictions and beliefs. In fact, as it turns out, Bitachon must be wholehearted. Lip service paid to this lofty faith ideal is a pointless exercise and ultimately meaningless. Only by virtue of genuine trust can we achieve complete Reliance on Hashem! This is clearly demonstrated with uniquely braided strands of sacred Scripture them spell out the basis for this second Trust Principle.
