True to the Game: Atlanta Hawks Do It for the Culture
from It's UATL · host The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Over a decade ago, the Atlanta Hawks were at a crossroads. The organization was reeling from a scandal after a racially charged internal email from one of its owners was shared with the NBA league office. That was followed by the discovery of racially insensitive remarks from their former general manager. Since then, the organization has made a point to celebrate Black culture in Atlanta. Leading the Hawks' charge is chief marketing officer Melissa Proctor. Proctor explains what the organization has done to rebuild trust, grow its fan base, get love from a past Pope, and strengthen ties to the community.
