Understand Your Talents
from Startup to Stellar · host LaTondra Murray PhD
So, what are strengths? Your strengths are your natural talents, the things that you organically know how to do. They can help or hinder us if we’re not intentional about how we use them. My technique for getting clearer about your strengths is what I call the CEO Method. Clarify: Get clear about what you do best and be honest and open about how they show up for you. Explore: Explore your talents. Are you judgy about the things you do well? Do you have strengths envy? Optimize: How can you apply your strengths for the greatest benefit for yourself, your clients, and your team? How can you do more of those and release those that aren’t in your wheelhouse? You might find that you’re good at some things that you despise doing, and that’s okay. This is where you can choose to do less of those things and do some hiring. That said, it’s really common to be drawn to people that are just like you - what I like to call mini-me syndrome. If someone you hire is too like you, they aren’t in the position to take over the tasks you want to release. Focusing on your zone of genius is a win for you, your team, and your clients. An understanding of yourself is essential for becoming an incredible leader.
