Understanding Anger
from Chaos to Connection: Boundaries and Breakthroughs for Cycle-Breaking Women · host Diane Sorensen
What did you learn about anger? Many of us learned anger was disrespectful or mean and we shouldn't have it. Culturally, as women we are taught to be nice. Being nice also means being quiet. We learn to suppress our anger but over time it builds up and bubbles over. We end up acting out our anger rather than feeling it. We find ourselves in a passive-aggressive flip flop creating an eggshell environment and major stress. When we are disconnected from our own anger we cannot understand and help our children connect to and work through their anger. I often hear parents say, "My child is so angry. I don't understand where it is coming from." OR "I get so angry and explode. I don't know what to do." I too found myself caught in the endless cycle of anger, explosion and guilt. I didn't understand myself which made it extremely hard to understand my children. On today's episode we talk about understanding anger and why its showing up.
