US Freedom Escorts start in Strait of Hormuz: Tara & Gen Keene disagree with policy
from The Tara Show
In Hour 1, Segment 1 of The Tara Show (May 4, 2026), Tara discusses the launch of U.S. “Freedom Escorts” in the Strait of Hormuz—an initiative to have the U.S. military guide commercial ships safely through the contested waterway amid heightened tensions involving Iran. While Tara expresses skepticism about the policy, questioning its risks, strategic clarity, and potential to escalate U.S. involvement in the region, retired General Jack Keane offers a more supportive or measured perspective, emphasizing the importance of maintaining open global shipping lanes and deterring Iranian interference. The segment centers on this disagreement, highlighting a broader debate over whether the escorts are a necessary show of strength and stability or an avoidable step toward deeper military entanglement.
What this episode covers
00:00 Good morning, Lee. Hey there, Tara. Okay, Freedom Escorts starting this morning. Today, I guess. uh In the Strait of Hormuz. Why does they say freedom is never free, Tara? No, it never is. Meanwhile, $4, actual $4 a gallon gas here in the upstate all over the weekend. I saw a couple of places where I go for cheap gas were still underneath four. I think I saw a 395 and a 399. 00:28 I had to go get gas for my car, which takes premium. Because it's got the performance engine, it was 475. Now I didn't go to one of the discount stores like I usually do, but I just wanted to hurry up and get, of course I've only got an 11 gallon tank, so it's not that bad. But it's still, yes, that hurts. And for anybody who's got something with a, like one of those trucks or SUVs with a 20 gallon plus tanks, then there's diesel. People are gonna feel this, they're gonna see it in food prices, it's a mess. 00:56 And I gotta tell you, I'm confused. Why are we just now doing freedom escorts when actual gas hits over $4? Why don't we do this all along? I gotta tell you, I'm very confused about it. For the first time, do not understand what's going on with Iran and what the Trump administration's doing. I've lost the thread. When I heard that this weekend, I was like, why don't we do that all along then? 01:23 Why do we give Iran so much power over gas prices? So I don't, I'd love to see a good answer to that. don't know, I don't understand. The other thing I don't get at all is that over the weekend we saw it again, these little gunboats that Iran has and they shoot bullets and that scares people who are going through there. Why are they still there? Why don't we just blow them out of the water? So there are no more. 01:54 I don't get that either. I'm very confused about, well, not with drones, they're not. very confused. mean, drones, satellites, like I don't get that. And once they open fire, we can find them. Go blow them away. We find these boats all the time coming into our country with drugs. Hit them. I mean, I don't get that. I mean, we, I don't get it. I mean, we could take satellites, hit rewind. 02:21 It's how we were able to figure out that the US blew up the Nord Stream pipeline. I don't even, I don't get it. I'm sorry I've lost. I don't know how we can't just not find it. I agree this should have been done sooner, but I think part of it was a strategic point where we had to do, I think that the Navy had to do the blockade so that they had some idea of who was where and when. And then they were able to do this. 02:50 But I agree with you, this is something that should have been uh done earlier. Absolutely. And I do think it's interesting, and you mentioned the boats, this is interesting because the great fear were the drones, the Kamikaze drones hitting those ships, that could do some real damage. These smaller boats, unless they're shooting RPG, well, even smaller missiles, because those boats can't carry a whole lot, those small fast boats. 03:15 you know, they can carry some missiles and yes, they could seriously damage a tanker and if you hit it in the right place, boy, you could set that thing on fire. But, I just, those are gonna be a little easier to take out. A lot easier. Yeah. all they gotta do is radio in, we just got hit, bam, we'll take them out. mean, these aren't hard things. I don't understand why this is happening. And they've got to come from the shore. Now granted, the strait is very small. Yeah. Relatively speaking. So the time it takes them to get from onshore or wherever they're hitting, 03:44 on the shoreline of Iran to the ships that are out there and they're only a few miles out to sea in the strait. That's not a whole lot of time, but heck, those ATMs and Cobra attack helicopters and our own drone warfare, please, you're right. We should be able to take that out. Yeah, and I don't know why, and it doesn't even sound like there's a lot of them. They don't have a blockade. N ...
