Competency, Capability and Value-- What's the difference? Or is it the same? You can't be valuable unless you have skills and talents. And those skills need to be as good or better than the person who needs your skills. To know the ins and outs. To have succeeded and failed. To have experience that you've gained from those failures and successes give you skills and talents that are unique to you. Using those capabilities are the ways to be valuable.
