Vampire Hunter D was a Letdown

This early anime film helped introduce Western audiences to the darker, more gothic side of anime—but does it still hold up today?

Join us as we unpack the aesthetics over substance vibe, the strangely silent protagonist, and some very questionable pacing. Spoiler alert: we didn’t exactly love it. But even with our criticisms, we can’t deny the legacy Vampire Hunter D left on the anime industry and its influence on future vampire and sci-fi storytelling in animation.
