Victory is Certain | Exodus 23:20-33

Last month, popular Baptist minister, Dr Steven Lawson, aged 73, was removed from ministry because he was caught in an adulterous relationship. This relationship had been going on for the past five years, with a young woman old enough to be his granddaughter. Prior to this, Dr Lawson had faithfully pastored churches, preached the gospel week in and week out, written theological books, taught at The Master’s Seminary (John MacArthur’s seminary), been a speaker at Ligonier conferences (Reformed conference, hosted by R.C. Sproul), and been married to his wife for most of his life. Once his adultery was discovered, a lifetime of ministry was discredited and his legacy destroyed. How absolutely tragic! Pray that the Lord would bring him to deep repentance as he goes through church discipline process. In this text, God is preparing to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land. He promises to grant them victory over their enemies by sending his angel before them. He also commands them not to compromise when they enter the land, by making peace with the Canaanites. Rather, the Israelites are to annihilate them, tear down their idols, so that they don’t fall into their detestable practices and instead remain faithful to God and serve him alone. What we’ll see here is that because God has won the victory and crushed the enemy, we can serve him faithfully. Preacher: Rev. Antonio Coppola.
