Violence Against Black Women : A Conversation With Dr. Brittany Lewis

from Feminism NOW

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and host Christian F. Nunes talks with Dr. Brittany Lewis about some disturbing statistics:  there are 60,000 missing Black women and girls in this country, and Black women are more than twice as likely as their peers to be victims of homicide. The Founder and CEO of Research in Action, Dr. Lewis is a leader in developing effective, community-based strategies to push for social and policy change.  Nunes and Lewis discuss the systemic racism behind the disproportionate rates of violence Black women and girls face in the US.For Domestic Violence Awareness Month, NOW calls upon our communities and law enforcement to believe survivors when they bravely step forward to report. Too often, Black women are not believed. And if they do report, it is not investigated. Survivors must be believed and what they share must be taken as authentic and truthful. It is always better to save a life rather than overlook it and lose one.NOW's Take Action Checklist Listen to new episodes of Feminism NOW released every other Wednesday. Bauer, Florian Schneider, Axel Weber & Dr. Tillman Bardt The Newmorrow PodCast is more than a podcast — it's a platform for open dialog on the future of our business, a platform for those building what doesn’t exist yet. Here, we share and embrace our passion for the hospitality industry, but we won’t romanticize the journey. We ask the tough questions, confront uncomfortable truths, and prepare for a future that resists easy answers. We believe that the tougher and wilder times become, the more openly, honestly and humanely people need to talk to each other and act together. We believe, openness, togetherness, and truthfulness should also be cornerstones of a professional community to develop our utopian idea of „open source“. This is a space where visionaries don’t just imagine the future — they wrestle with the paradoxes that shape it: success vs. happiness, data vs. instinct, stability vs. reinvention. Join leaders, entrepreneurs, and thinkers as they share not what made them — but what’s actively shaping them, now and next.
