What gets investigated next is shaped by what the political environment is rewarding. The most informative lead and the lead most likely to produce an arrest are not always the same lead.Media pressure → Information contamination. Public narrative establishes priors. At regular intervals, the team builds the strongest possible case against its own working reconstruction. Not because the counter-narrative is likely — because the test catches narrative gravity before it becomes irreversible.4. Analyst separation. At least one analyst with no community-facing responsibilities. Their job: ask what the evidence requires, independent of what the environment needs.5. Binary preservation on the record. At every stage, “certain vs. probable” is answered and documented.
